Coffee With God: 7/21/2023 | Ephesians 1:3-4
"The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ be praised! For in Christ, he has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realm. In the same way, he also chose us in him before the founding of the Cosmos so that we might be holy and blameless before Him.”[1]
Did you know that those who abide in Christ Jesus were chosen by God before the founding of the Cosmos?
That’s right. If you belong to Jesus, it’s because before God created the world, He looked ahead, saw your life, loved you, and knew that you would choose to be a recipient of His love and a partaker of His grace.
What does this mean, exactly?
Being chosen means that God picked you. Have you ever experienced a time when you were not selected for something? When you were not the one who was picked? A sports team? A college? A job?
Being not chosen is no fun. But being chosen for something you care about can be a blessing and provide a feeling of euphoria and accomplishment.
Thankfully, you’ve been chosen by God – the only one whose opinion truly matters – for the most important thing: membership into His family and eternal kingdom.
What else does it mean?
It means that God has blessed you with spiritual blessings. What is a spiritual blessing? A spiritual blessing exists in the unseen realm of life. But even though you can’t see these blessings, they are as tangible as anything in life.
If you’ve ever experienced the absolute love of another person (or of God, for that matter), you’ll know what I’m talking about. You might not be able to touch it, but you can certainly feel, comprehend, and experience it.
(By the way, this does not mean that God doesn’t give us tangible blessings as well, but right now, I’m focusing on Ephesians 1:3-4...😁)
And even though we can’t see God or His spiritual blessings, we get the joy of receiving them daily; granted that we’re resting in His promises and trusting in His faithfulness.
One day, when God’s heavenly realm becomes fully manifest in a new earth that a new Kingdom inhabits, we will experience it fully. It won’t just be spiritual and heavenly at that point, it will be as tangible as the chair I’m sitting in as I write this devotion.
You see, God’s choosing you has many positive repercussions. One of them is knowing that the God of the universe chose you to be a part of His forever family.
If that weren’t enough, His choice also means that you have become the recipient of unseen but very powerful blessings. Blessings that were designed to transform your life into one of continual joy and peace as you learn to trust in His promises and rest in His faithfulness.
[1] Translation my own.
Chosen and Blessed!
