Coffee With God: 2/23/23 | Psalm 62:1-2
“For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken.”
There is something about sitting quietly in the presence of God that restores us. I’m not talking about not talking. I’m talking about sitting quietly in his presence. A quieted heart. A quieted mind. Developing the ability to sit quietly in his presence without being distracted takes time. But it will surely come if you apply yourself and ask the Lord for help. The Holy Spirit loves being invited to help quiet a restless soul.
God does some of his best work when we get ourselves entirely out of the way. For all of our want to pour out our hearts, sometimes we need most to simply be in his presence and allow the Lord to perform the restorative work only he can do. One of the great truths revealed in the Gospel is that God is always willing to come to us, to meet us where we are. In Jesus, God did what was necessary to get to us before we made a single move. Wholeness and deliverance are the immediate byproducts of God’s presence. Sometimes they come most powerfully when we are willing to sit quietly and wait for him.
