Our Eyes Are Fixed On You

Coffee With God Devotions

Coffee With God: 4/19/2023 | 2 Chronicles 20:12

“For we are powerless against this great horde that is coming against us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes, O God, are fixed on you.”

If only this were the cry of the church in 2023.

If only…

So many problems we face. So many challenges lie before us. Our culture? Depraved. Our society?

Teetering on a self-induced collapse.

The cause? Immorality. Like cancer eating away at our collective body cell by cell.

It was once a thing to be valued, biblical morality. The faith of the Gospel was once upheld and cherished.

No more is the fear of the Lord a thing to be admonished, valued, prized.

All that has changed.

Now, disciples of our Lord are seen as the problem. We have become the enemy of this perverse Babylon.

Our worldview seen as hateful, immoral, and wicked.

You won’t affirm their immorality and delusion? You will be canceled, sued, and jailed. One day soon… you will be killed.

But don’t worry; you’re not the problem. It’s only your old-fashioned, outdated beliefs.

It’s only the mysticism and fairy tales you believe in. Once you give up your delusion, all will be well for you again.

Renounce the savior who didn’t die and rise again for the sin that doesn’t exist, and you’ll be welcomed back with open arms.

If only we could respond like them.

Like the people of Judah when faced with an enemy horde too strong and mighty for them.

For too long, we’ve fought using natural means.

We fight over politics. We look for a savior to rise out of the land of elephants and donkeys instead of looking to the one who is coming with the clouds.

We put our pride, trust, hope, and identity in stars, stripes, and man-made documents instead of the living God and His Eternal Word.

When will we learn?

When will we understand?

When will our human-centered solutions finally be given up?

When will we stop trusting in ourselves and our own strength?

When will we turn to God alone and declare with one voice: “we are powerless against this horde. We do not know what to do. But our eyes are fixed on you”?

Our eyes are fixed on you...

Our eyes, O God, are fixed on you.

When will the church wake up and see that the hope for our lives, our homes, our families, our everything is only in the Lord?

It starts with one.

One person.

One community.

One church.

One by one, we cry out together.

Our eyes, O Lord, are fixed on you.
